  • Gwen in Purgatory

    August 21st, 2010

    Dear Chibi,

On Thursday night, I had the pleasure of watching another play at Belvoir St Theatre, this time ‘Gwen in Purgatory’! Watching ‘Measure for Measure‘ was quite an interesting experience so given the opportunity we didn’t mind going back for some more. (This was the only thing I looked forward to during this busy work week) Kaz was able to get 4 tickets for us this time, so I invited M12 and Somps along too. Yay for play!

We arrived at the theatre a little earlier to sit down and enjoy some free drinks. There weren’t many Asians at all, but we didn”t feel too out of place since we were arty students from COFA anyway, lol.  When they were giving their final call for the show, Somps was still queuing in the bathroom, so  I told Jacky and M12 to go in first while I waited for Somps. The funny thing was I never thought how embarrassing it was for Jacky to walk in with tickets for two, for him and M12. LOL.

    Melissa Jaffer as Gwen

Although this play didn’t feel as high budget or “grand” as ‘Measure for Measure’ (smaller cast, less props/same stage, shorter duration)  I enjoyed it for what was given.  It was amusing and I loved Gwen, haha! It’s hard not to think “awww” for a little fragile weak old lady who just wants to play tennis and drive her car. As the four of us sat in our seats waiting for the show to begin, Gwen was already  in-character reading manuals XDD  How cute! It felt less and less like a stage and soon it felt like we were really watching someone’s family affairs. Oh, the ‘father’ deserves a mention because he was made of WIN!

    Good times :)

    Inception

    August 9th, 2010

    Dear Chibi,

Yesterday Jacky, Burpy, Somps and I went to see Christopher Nolan’s ’Inception’ at Burwood cinemas. With the movie being hyped so much, I wondered if it could really meet up to my expectations. Well, what can I say..? It was brilliant! Very clever and intriguing. It’s definitely one of the better movies I’ve seen a long time. If you haven’t seen it yet, chibi says GO SEE IT. NOW.

    XD

Or, you could be as hardcore as Burpy and watch it thrice ;) All in the name of the box office.

The idea of the movie is based on dreams within dreams, and since I’m quite a dreamer (I dream a lot) I could really relate to the ideas explored in the film. I have never experienced limbo (or is this ‘reality’ a limbo?), but I have experienced 2/3 level dreaming & sometimes lucid dreaming. It’s quite an interesting experience and I often wonder how it must feel for others to not dream at all.

I was so sure Inception was going to appear in my dream last night, as lately all my dreams relate directly to what I see/do during the day. The problem with this is- I don’t want to dream about it. Mal is too scary and haunting~ I want her to stay far far away from me as possible!! >_< (Not you Mal pal XD)

Since coming home last night, I kept forcing myself not to think about the film, and told myself continuously that it’s “not real”. It’s the only way I can make myself less scared about anything. So.. can you guess what happened in my dream last night..?

In my dream, I kept telling myself not to think about Inception and that it’s not real. LOL..
At least it kinda worked, since Mal never showed up…ahahahaa.

So here I am back in reality, though I spent all morning wondering if this really is the reality. ‘Are Mondays really this long and boring?’

    I need a totem.

Miss Sydney Chinese Beauty Pageant 2010 & Steven Ma!

    August 1st, 2010

    Dear Chibi,

Jacky’s parents had two free tickets to see the Miss Sydney Chinese Beauty Pageant and asked if we wanted to go in their place. I’m not a fan of beauty pageants but when I remembered TVB artist Steven Ma Jun Wei was going to be a guest, I immediately jumped to the opportunity! I wanna meet Steven Ma :DD!!!!

Tonight after having dinner at Ajisen, we headed off  to Kensington Parade Theatre for the 7pm event, but as usual it ran late and started 30 minutes later. While this was somewhat expected, it was annoying because they kept playing all the sponsors in a loop with a voice over naming each one :p

We end up getting the $68 spots so it wasn’t too bad but still kinda far from the stage. I kept looking around for Steven Ma and it turns out he was already sitting at the front row with the other judges. He’s kinda hard to spot dressed casually.

Steven Ma next the the lady in red

Our view of the stage. You can just barely make out their faces XD The opening performance consisted of them dancing to Lady Gaga songs. Then there was another ‘performance’ where they walked around and threw poses..to ‘Eyes on Me’.

The competition itself wasn’t that interesting to be honest. We didn’t really care much on who was going to win, since we didn’t know these people. Flipping through the pamphlet, Jacky decided he wanted number 10 to win, and cheered along when she appeared, LOL. I wasn’t really going for anybody.

TVB Buddy (Mascot) on stage with the 2 hosts. By the time it reached the Question and Answer section, Jacky and I grew pretty bored. The questions they asked were all using a similar formula and the responses given were all very generic and unoriginal. This section was supposed to test their creativity and improvisation skills but clearly nothing too wonderful was demonstrated. I think in the end, the judging was still based primarily on their looks. Why? The only girl who seemed to do pretty well in this section didn’t even make it in top 5 :p

Ray’s 23rd Bday with Putt Putt

    July 25th, 2010

    Dear Chibi,

Yesterday our Rayfy celebrated his 23 years of youthfulness with Putt Putt and dinner at New Empress Restaurant. See, the awesomeness thing about putt putt was that Jacky and I had been there quite recently, so we have had some practice (that was my first time) In the words of M12…Pro putt putt time XD!!

There were quite a few of us, and we only had about 2 hours so we had to split up in our adventure. Jacky, Somps, Emra, MZ and I went as a group and did the intermediate Jungle course, while the others did the beginners water course (?)

Group at the end of the course with Mr Rhino

    Emily’s 23rd ‘Out-of-Character’ Birthday

    July 18th, 2010

    Dear Chibi,

Yesterday we celebrated Emily’s 23rd Birthday with some Out-of-character fun :D Like most of her other birthdays, there’s usually a theme to it; last year was “fob” and this time it’s the “OOC”. The funny thing about this party was that originally we were supposed to wear what she allocated for us. It was a April fools joke back then, but how funny would it be to see Burpy as Hello Kitty and Marcus as a flamboyant gay guy?  XDD

We met up at World Square around 5pm but most of them were late (birthday girl included :p) so we ended up going to Sydney Karoake for an hour and a half or so.

Birthday girl as a gipsy, Meeko as gothic lolita, Flora as a punk, Etta as.. a smart business lady?

Jacky as Jackie Chan (lol), MZ as a thug, Chibi as a cowgirl, Somps as a punk/goth, Burpy as a bum in a suit 8D

    Ray’s House Warming

    July 11th, 2010

    Dear Chibi,

Yesterday was a full-day of fun over at Ray’s new place for his house warming. Jacky and I arrived at around 12pm just in time for tea and timtams ^^ We watched some “Thank God You’re Here” clips on the TV (Youtube) to get the general idea of the game, as we were going to play it ourselves. After seeing the clips though, no one really wanted to play, ahha XD.  I think most of us found it pretty embarrassing. I mean, you’ll be the only one “performing” while everyone watches you trying to be funny by improvising. Since Ray had bought the game, the boys decided to give it a go and see what happens. Burpy went first as the skincare specialist, who probably did the best job being in-character and giving amusing responses. The interview questions felt pretty endless though as there were so many of them. So the fun kinda died down towards the middle-end. Next was MZ who was some musician? Wait..country singer? I can’t even remember because it was pretty specific and not something I was familiar with at all. He did a funny job answering questions since it didn’t really make sense, ahahaha. Ray was the school teacher who talked about dissecting cockroaches because there were too many cockroaches in the morning..XD Finally it was Jacky’s turn who was supposed to be a boxer, but since improvising really isn’t his thing, he bailed because he was too shyyyy XD XDDDDD hehehe ^^

    Measure for Measure

    June 24th, 2010

    Dear Chibi,
Last night Jacky and I went to Belvoir St Theatre to watch Shakespeare’s great dark comedy “Measure for Measure“. I’ve never seen a Shakespeare play and since Kaz managed to get free tickets to it it was a good opportunity! The spinning stage and hand-held camera gave off a really interesting effect and I naturally started analysing the camera angles like in the old days studying an English text, lol  Damn you English..

Now I must admit, the language confused me for a while and the politics didn’t make much sense at the beginning. I got the general idea but it wasn’t until the middle part where I found it most interesting and I finally started knowing who was who. What I never really got though was the humour XD The audience were laughing at certain dialogue so I assume it was supposed to be funny, but I didn’t get it at all… LOL FAIL. Apparently they were rude, according to Jacky :p

After the 20 minute interval, the story went really..weird and random! The ending was such a ‘wth’ moment, it was like everything just mashed together and everyone gets married @_@.  lol? Later I read up on the story and that’s what really happens. wow, XD.

    Overall, I think the actors did a pretty good job and it was an engaging performance on most part.  The downside was that it ended quite late and we were both really tired and sleepy, oh and the lack of leg space ^^;
