Since finishing “Chinese Paladin 3“, I’ve been meaning to try out a few other Mainland Chinese dramas. I love watching Fantasy/Wuxia/Romance series set in ancient China.
A few months ago I started watching “Strange Hero Yi Zhi Mei” starring Wallace Huo and Liu Shishi (both from Chinese Paladin 3) and got up to about episode 10. It was okay, but it wasn’t as interesting as I had hoped. Not even Wallace Huo was enough to keep me from calling it quits.
Next, I decided to try “Xuan Yuan Sword – Rift of the Sky“- a series I was keen to watch because it has a similar feel to Chinese Paladin. Sadly, I got up to about episode 6 and started losing interest. I don’t like any of the main characters so far, and most have been introduced except for Gu Li Na Zha (who happens to be the only character I might like). SHE HASN’T EVEN APPEARED YET JEN, WHY DID YOU STOP? Because the dry plot and main leads are driving me crazy. I also find the costumes a bit of a turn off.
All these series are about 30 episodes in length so maybe I’m giving up too early. Who knows, maybe I’ll come back to this series in the future^^;

So a few days ago I started watching “Startling by Each Step (Bu Bu Jing Xin)” starring Liu Shishi, Nicky Wu and Kevin Cheng. I heard a lot of noise about this series, as it was apparently a hit in China when it aired in 2011. The good news is, I’m currently up to episode 6 and I actually quite like it :D It’s a romance period drama revolving around a modern day woman who finds herself pulled back into the 18th century Qing Dynasty. It kinda reminds me of Inuyasha and Fushigi Yuugi, but more-so the latter since it’s similar to a shoujo manga. Can’t wait to watch more :)
You can watch all these dramas on this youtube channel here in high quality with English subtitles :) Enjoy!Comment it , or trackback this post.
