    May 31st, 2007

    Dear Chibi,

Nothing special happened today- It was a very ordinary typical Thursday with me missing out on my consultation with Steve again because it’s always alphabetical order and my surname places me last, if not second last on the roll. Nevertheless, I felt happy today. I started to notice that after a while, and wondered what triggered my good mood. It’s the feeling you get when you wake up from a very nice sleep, except my sleep was rather normal. lol. Maybe it’s because it’s week 13 of Uni, and only 1 week left before the break ^_^; or maybe it’s because I’m feeling a lot better now and my voice has 85% recovered. Probably the latter.

Gosh it’s chilly today, I better wear more to avoid getting sick again. Progress has been reasonably better than other times I’ve got the cold, which is a good sign.

    Keep it up Jen!

Jen the nerd pays a visit.

    May 30th, 2007

    Dear Chibi,

    Wish coffee could accompany me.

Currently I’m finding it hard to keep awake, and it’s such a pity the cold is still with me, not allowing me to intake coffee or chocolate. I’ve got stuff to look forward to when I recover I guess.

I was just checking out Adobe Creative Suite 3, and wow.. it sounds very..exciting.  I’m not too fond of their new icons though, haha.

Photoshop seems to have scraped Image Ready and has a built in animation palette. Sounds good- I wish I had that to use for my Major work (right now I’m just running back and forth in both programs to do the same thing). Smart filters sound useful too, where filters applied are placed on a new layer, which preserve the original image. This would save me time from duplicating layers every time I added a filter. Not that I do 3D, but it’s good news for 3D people to know you can even edit textures directly within Photoshop Extended and immediately see results.

I don’t really use Dreamweaver, but a ‘browser compatibility check’ sounds very useful, and can save many strands of hair from being pulled out XD Now maybe there’s hope pages can look good (and the same) on I.E and Mozilla Firefox.  I’d like that a lot. (I hope no one is still using Internet Explorer as their choice of browser. If so, convert today!! Firefox is free, fast to download and more secure!)

Flash CS3 now has sophisticated video tools, you can even tween videos.. (interesting to know how that would be useful…) They also have the option to export QuickTime video.  If only I had Flash CS3 I may have used this program for my major work, instead of After Effects which is a bit annoying. The interface of Flash has high resemblance to Photoshop and Illustrator, and now you even use the pentool the same way. I guess Macromedia was changed for the better.

There’s of course a whole bunch of other cool features as well as for Illustrator, but since I don’t really use Illustrator I won’t comment on it.

I have yet to find any good reason someone would use Fireworks CS3 when there’s already the magnificent Photoshop.  Any ideas?

There’s a lot of emphasis and integration for mobiles, what’s with that? “ADOBE CREATIVE SUITE 3: DESIGN PREMIUM: DELIVER INNOVATIVE IDEAS IN PRINT, WEB AND MOBILE DESIGN” o.o Guess it’s all about keeping up with technology and trends.

Haha anyway, enough with this talk, I sound like a complete nerd.

    Fond of Pink?

    May 28th, 2007

    Dear Chibi,

Just when I was sitting down ready to work on DTA, I had a sudden urge to change my blog skin instead. So here we have procrastinating Jen’s CSS edit. I think the colour scheme is more pleasant than the previous one and is very clean but lacks visuals. I’ll probably get a banner going at the top sometime, but now probably isn’t a good time. This layout should work fine in any screen resolution (unless you have a huge one like mine you’ll find the page to be very wide, not that it’s an actual problem)

Another trend happening within my blog is that a lot of the posts are under the “General” Category… I think I’ll need to create a few more. It is often difficult to classify what I write, cause it doesn’t seem to fit under anything.

Lemme talk a bit about the heading of this post, so this doesn’t seem like spam. My first favourite colour was yellow. I remember I loved it very much because it was bright and happy. Bright and happy warm colours are good. Recent years has seen me buying and using more pink than any other colour, a threat to the lovely yellow currently sitting in first place. It raises issues and concerns whether or not it is yellow I love, or whether it’s pink. Which one do I actually like MORE? It’s sort of like when you’re, say, a 6 year old and your parents ask you who you love more, the mum or dad? Sweet little kids would say “I love both!” and the-little-too-honest ones would say “Dad, because he buys me toys” or something like that. If you didn’t like that example, it could perhaps be your question whether you like picnic or cherryripe more. Picnic has more yellow…cherryipe resembles pinkess. Why is this a problem you ask? It is because I say one thing, but act another; which seems rather hypocritical don’t you think? “Oh, I love yellow, but I hang out with Pink much more” sorta thing. Giving these two colours a persona complicates the issue further. Yellow suits me more, metaphorically, but pink seems more attractive of a colour. But Yellow I love you sooo much! It’s just that, I can’t use you in designs without making you look…bad. It hurts me to say that to you, because seriously, you make me happy. So which will win her heart? Yellow or Pink? After all this talk, it makes you realise this is nothing but spam ^^v

    dizziness. Am I seeing things?

    May 24th, 2007

    Dear Chibi,

    You know something isn’t right when you’re wearing 5 layers sitting next to a heater and you still feel cold in the last month of Autumn. The last time I recovered from a cold was only 3 months ago, wow- I’m weak. At least this time I can say it’s normal… the cold is going around and so many people are coughing in buses and trains. They say only stupid people catch colds in the summer ^^;

I’ve been resting at home, skipping lectures and tutorials including a consultation I was suppose to have today. Don’t think I can go to work tomorrow, nor Saturday. Simply not fit to get out of the house. x_x

On another note, I had this for lunch today..it looked interesting. Actually I didn’t know what kind of taste I was expecting. Has anyone else tried this? Its got the seaweed paper on the outside, a cake substance on the inside with a mix of what seems to be mayonnaise and something salty.

you know you want to read

    May 17th, 2007

    Dear Chibi,

I was sitting at my computer reading a book for Digital Theories and Aesthetics, and found myself falling asleep (literally). The book itself isn’t that boring though, maybe I just haven’t read books often enough to keep the concentration span going. When was the last time I picked up a 600 page book and attempted to read it? I don’t recall. Funny, when I say I’m reading a book that’s 600 pages, I really mean I’m reading one chapter of it. Saying I’m reading a 30 paged book doesn’t sound much of an achievement (even for me). Okay, so it’s not boring. I thought my sleepiness may be caused by another factor, ceteris paribus. At that moment, I remembered a “nap” would be beneficial to regain…non-sleepiness. Does that make sense? The very thing I need to do is do the thing I’m trying to prevent..wait, doesn’t that totally defeat the purpose of the solution which is not doing the very thing you’re about to do? I love long sentences. Whoops.. that’s a short sentence there, I guess I lied. Anyways, back to me and my solution of taking a nap…to be precise, one wise man once said “20 minutes is all the sleep you need”. Okay, so the old man wasn’t really an old wise man but no other than my sis. Yes, she’s not me, she has no other. Right, now.. so I hopped in bed after setting my alarm and cuddled up in a little ball refusing to put the blankets on since I thought doing that would “wreck” my bed and make it harder for me to feel comfy to sleep tonight. I fell asleep. I don’t remember what I dreamed. After what felt like 12 hours, I was woken up by my phone alarm, only to realise the ringtone sound nice. I picked it up, and realised it was my sis who just happened to ring me before the alarm went on, lol. I guess the old wise man was wrong when he said 20 minutes was sufficient, when I only slept 14 minutes (1 minute was deducted since it took me that period of time to fall sleep to begin with).

And soooooo… here I am, back to where I started. I’m in front of the computer, with the book lying there with those…puppy-dog eyes. I guess it means it’s time I stopped rambling on and got back to what I was doing, reading the book.

    5 days left.

    May 16th, 2007

    Dear Chibi,

In 5 more days, I will no longer be a teenager. (It can be argued I’m already not a teenager, since you’re an adult when you’re 18 but that’s beside the point) I was asked if there was anything I wanted to do before turning 20. I thought for a bit, thought for a little longer and figured there isn’t much, because I’m quite happy with what I’ve already done and tried, in my teenage years. Life is about living to its fullest. I’m not saying there’s nothing more to achieve (heck, no!), but it just means doing what you can, with less regrets as possible. If there’s more surprises before my birthday, wonderful =)
